Information about the Jersey Wooly bunny

The Jersey Wooly also known as the Dwarf Angora in Europe, is a  an ideal small pet rabbit with a beautiful very easy-to-care-for coat.  A full-grown Wooly weighs 2.5 - 3.5 poundsThe ears are small and erect, standing about 2 to 3 inches in length. The head is bold and square with large eyes. A Jersey Wooly's coat is often referred to as "easy care" due to the high ratio of guard hairs. The Jersey Wooly's hair is non-matting and requires minimal grooming as an adult.

These rabbits are very affectionate and playful, they are noted for their high intelligence, docile nature, and gentle disposition. They love to be around other animals especially cats and small dogs.  Most Jersey Woolies have very friendly personalities; as pets they range from laid-back lap bunnies to outgoing explorers.  They come in a variety of colors and make excellent pets or 4-H projects.

Health, Care & Grooming

The average life span of a Jersey Wooly can depend on many factors, including genetics and care. It is not uncommon for a Jersey Wooly to live 7-10+ years when properly cared for.  It is advisable to have a yearly physical done by a Veterinarian who specializes in Rabbits.  Limit the amount of fresh leafy treats, Veggies, and Fruit you give your bunny, more than a small treat once or twice a week may cause Diarrhea.  If you suspect loose stools, provide plenty of water, free choice Timothy Hay, and make an appointment with your Vet.  Rabbits do need to be treated for worms.  Have a fecal sample tested for Pin Worms on an annual basis and deworm with the medication recommended by your Vet.

Grooming should not exceed a weekly event.  Set aside a quiet hour or so of your time on a weekly basis to comb over your bunny's coat.  Use your fingers to loosen any mats, and comb out any dirt.

Make sure that his rear area is clean of any poopie, and make sure the skin is not irritated.   Check the ears for any dirt, and clean the area with a cotton ball and mineral oil.(used for cosmetics).   A Jersey Wooly has a very low maintenance coat, however, grooming makes for very good bonding time with your bunny.  Babies (under 6 grooming months) require more grooming as they have a more cotton-like coat.
